Courtesy visits to Marbel and General Santos City for Phase 2

DOTr Assistant Secretary for Mindanao Projects Eymard Eje paid courtesy visits in succession to Tampakan, South Cotabato Mayor Leonard Escobillo, and to General Santos City Mayor Ronnel Rivera yesterday, 4 March 2020.

In his meeting with Mayor Escobillo, Asec. Eje discussed various transport infrastructure projects and programs of the DOTr, particularly the ‘biggest transformational initiative’ of the Duterte Administration—the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Asec. Eje sought the assistance of Mayor Escobillo in pushing for the modernization of the road transport system of the city, by encouraging the local transport cooperatives to join and venture into the PUVMP.

Meanwhile, in his meeting with Mayor Rivera, Asec. Eje discussed the status update on the Phase II of the much-awaited Mindanao Railway Project (MRP) . This phase will connect Digos City, Davao del Sur to Marbel, South Cotabato with a distance of around 150-km.

Phase 1 of the MRP, the 100-km rail line which will connect Tagum City in Davao Del Norte to Digos, Davao del Sur, is about to commence construction this year.

After the series of meetings, Asec. Eje capped off the day with a quick visit to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) SOKSARGEN Station in General Santos City, where he exchanged pleasantries with Station Commander LCDR Paolo Carlo Tiongson, and other personnel from the PCG.
